Through this piece of work, I aim to challenge the singular perspective that restricts the way we perceive and define things around us. Any given object or piece of art carries multiple dimensions and holds a plethora of stories confined within its frames. This piece captures the concept of mindless urbanization which is often justified as much-needed ‘development’. Nowadays, most of our cities and its development is measured by high-rise buildings. And its beauty is often defined in terms of its skyscrapers, carefully designed garden layouts along with its modern amenities. Given this context, the frame aims to question the concept of beauty and urge the viewers to reflect and challenge the cost that our spaces and their natural surroundings are constantly paying in order for it to be transformed from their natural state of beauty to something that can conform to the definition of ‘modern and urban’.

I have used scrap material to create this piece of art. The material is often discarded as waste and on the spectrum of defining beauty, will lie at the opposite end. The use of the material is a conscious choice that aims to also subtly encourage the viewers to challenge the definition of ‘beauty’ as a construct. Through this piece of work, I wish to urge people to be aware of their natural surroundings and work towards preserving it. Additionally, I wish to encourage people to reflect on the construct of ‘development’ and redefine it so that it’s more inclusive in nature.
